Nancy Marks: The Power of Place
April 19 - May 13, 2012
Reception: Thursday, May 3, 2012, 6-8pm

UFG Revolver Marks V2 ABOUT THE SHOW: It is a series of questions and of choices--the creation of physical space as it relates to conscious construction and deconstruction of place—the multiple forms on which a city is built and how it comes to be. What happens when space is filled tightly with bricks and mortar—how is it that cities continue to breathe under all this weight? Through my art, I explore the fossil of a city and what its bones look like...its stretch marks and skin.

Regardless of how it comes to be, the power of place is full of contradictions: Those who have and those who don’t, those whose energy is released by the mad rush to those who seek refuge by the river’s edge. There is a story to be told. As for me, I come alive when I can swing from a fire escape and then drop to the ground.
